Mission Statement of the Master of Science in Forensic Science

The mission of the Master of Science in Forensic Science is to provide a meaningful understanding of advanced scientific principles and methodologies in forensic sciences. It also strives to develop quantitative and analytical reasoning skills that support forensic work. Our program is designed to prepare those first to enter the forensic science workforce and to provide advanced educational opportunities for scientists, supervisors, and other professionals currently employed in forensic laboratories and related areas. Our students master advanced techniques and develop relevant communication skills for ethical application in the laboratory, within the scientific community, and in the courtroom.  Our program draws from chemistry, biology, physics, and the law. We offer specializations in criminalistics, molecular biology, and forensic toxicology. The Masters in Forensic Science curriculum meets an urgent national need for highly educated forensic scientists and research specialists. Our program remains committed to developing the next generation of forensic scientists and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the classroom and in the field.
