Devin Kozlosky ’24
Hometown: Mantua, New Jersey
Major: Human Services and Community Justice
Career Aspiration: US Coast Guard Emergency Response Officer
“My college journey was not linear because I had to work a full-time job, but the incredible professors and staff I’ve met at John Jay have always been supportive and kept me moving in the right direction,” says Kozlosky. “Our Military and Veteran Services Manager, Richard Pusateri, encouraged me to apply for the U.S. Coast Guard College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) Scholarship. He helped me with all the paperwork and answered any questions I had. Now that I’ve won the scholarship, I know I’m on the right path to an emergency response career.”
After graduation, Kozlosky will attend Coast Guard Officer Candidate School to become a Coast Guard officer—a career opportunity that she’s tremendously proud of earning. Kozlosky sees the courses she’s taken at John Jay as “fundamental building blocks” for her chosen profession. “Every class I’ve had was designed to help me navigate life post-graduation. The faculty actually work in the fields I’m interested in and they’ve created a curriculum that gives you both ‘book learning’ and practical career skills. Having service-learning requirements in my human services major has allowed me to explore the field in a hands-on manner. Because of John Jay, I’m truly excited about the possibilities ahead of me.”
