With over 117 recruiters attending the spring 2019 Career and Internship Fair, the 1,126 student attendees took full advantage of the various internship, full-time and part-time opportunities offered. Sponsored by the Dallas Police Department, Securitas USA, Howard County Police Department (Maryland), K2 Intelligence, Intergras, and the Portland Police Bureau, this event held on March 21, 2019, gave John Jay students a chance to speak with recruiters, share their career aspirations, and learn more about career possibilities.

 “Our students are hungry and driven and our employers see that. Students come to the fair to practice their networking skills, gauge what employers recruit at John Jay, and look for an opportunity to learn more or obtain a job or internship related to their field,” said Kristina Simonsen, Assistant Director for Employer Relations. “A recent Jobvite article shared data showing that referred applicants are 15 times more likely to be hired than applicants who apply via a job board. Having fairs like this one gives our students an advantage and helps them to succeed.” We asked students and recruiters what they hoped to gain from this semester’s fair. Here’s a sampling of their thoughts: 

Miranda Cortez, Recruitment Management, Saga Education
"John Jay is a very community and social justice-oriented college. Saga Education serves historically marginalized communities and students. We come here looking for upcoming leaders and graduates to help give back to communities. Because of its mission, John Jay is the perfect place to find tutors for our program.

"I'm looking for a job, but I want something that provides me with security and benefits. A lot of the recruiters here offer great wages, pensions, and guaranteed insurance. This is a fair with career-oriented jobs that sets you up for the long run."
